The Studio, Colonial’s Arts Academy, is a ministry of Colonial Baptist Church. Instruction takes place on the church campus at 6051 Tryon Road in Cary, North Carolina. This is a haven where students of all ages can develop their skills and talents on an individual or group basis. We believe that God has instilled each individual with distinct gifts and abilities. Solid training in the arts not only can develop and hone personal skills but also can open gateways for expression and self–discipline. Come join us as we invest together in your future for the glory of God.

History
The Studio was developed for quality training in the art disciplines by Christian professionals at an affordable price. As a result, The Studio began in August 2001. The first year started with 56 students. Currently there are over 140 students studying vocal and instrumental music, art and drama at various levels.

Vision
Encourage students of all ages to develop their talents and abilities to their fullest potential for the glory of God (Matthew 5:14–30).

Faculty
Jackie Wilder: piano, brass, woodwinds & strings 
Before coming to us, Jackie earned her BA degree in sacred music from Tennessee Temple University, with a major in trumpet, a background in strings, and a proficiency in piano. Throughout her 25 years of teaching, Jackie has worked with all ages, from wee beginners to adult masters. She spent time developing the instrumental programs at several schools.  Her students have qualified for the honors bands at NCCSAA, UNCG and Cedarville University as well as North Carolina’s All District and All State bands. In the nine years that Jackie has been with Colonial Baptist Church, she has founded the Colonial orchestra as well as our Fine Arts Academy.
Jackie and Russell, her husband, have been married 19 years. They are the proud parents of Jon,  and even prouder grandparents of the newest addition, Mercedes.

Mary Fuller: Voice, Clarinet, Piano
Mary received her BS in Elementary Education from Baptist Bible College in Pennsylvania. As an instructor, Mary has taught at Central Baptist Christian Academy, Bethel Baptist Christian Academy in New York, and has served as a private vocal coach for two years. She has performed with a wide range of groups, including concert choirs, special vocal ensembles, gospel teams, and orchestras. Mary herself has studied voice privately and done a variety of solo work. When not at The Studio, Mary home schools her four children and serves as office manager for Lance Fuller Homes.

Winifred Marecheau: Strings
Winifred, a song stylist, violinist, and string instructor, has been employed as an educator for twenty-one years. He received his BS from Winston–Salem State University and later his masters in music education from Jackson State University. Winifred’s teaching experiences include the Charlotte–Mecklenburg School System, the Clark County School System of Las Vegas, and the Hattiesburg Public Schools in Mississippi. Presently, Winifred serves as a string teacher with Wake County Public Schools. A violinist since the age of 12, Winifred has performed across the country. He played with the North Carolina School of the Arts orchestra, the Las Vegas Civic Orchestra, the USM orchestra in Hattiesburg, and currently performs with Black Tie–his local jazz and R&B band.

Nancy Siedschlag: French horn, Piano, Trumpet, Guitar, Music Therapy
Nancy comes to us with a strong proficiency in many instruments. She began studying the French horn in the 3rd grade and while in college played with the Oshkosh Civic Symphony as well as many orchestral ensembles. Nancy earned her degree in music therapy from Oshkosh in Wisconsin. Since then, Nancy has spent her time working with special needs students, using music as a gateway for development and encouragement. Nancy and her husband of 27 years, Gordon, have two children—Adam and Erin.

Mark Starlin: Guitar
Mark has been an active guitarist, both electric and acoustic, for 36 years and plays a wide variety of styles. As a teen he studied guitar privately for six years — four of those with jazz guitarist Robert Richter in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has played in bands, done studio recording, and played regularly at churches since the late 1970’s. He currently plays guitar at Colonial Baptist Church in Cary in the adult worship band, for youth groups, at camps, and in a jazz combo. Before coming to The Studio he taught guitar privately for four years. Mark is married to Colonial Communications Assistant Lee Starlin, and they have three daughters, Renee, Brittany, and Kelsey.

Katye Wood:  piano, violin

Katye has her degree in communications and piano pedagogy from Taylor University. She has played piano for 24 years and violin for 17 years and has been  a teacher for 12 years.  After high school she completed her National Music Teachers Guild certificate in Social Music.  She is also a member of the Cary-Apex Piano Teacher's Association.  Katye has also attended master classes with Jane MacGrath and Jim Brickman.  Originally from Knoxville TN, Katye has lived in the Cary area for 5 years.  She and her husband Ed have been married for 6 1/2  years and have a 3 1/2  year old son, Liam.

Daniel Cummins: voice, piano

Daniel graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Choral Education.  While in college Daniel was very involved musically in groups, solos, and theater.He is licensed to teach music in both Virginia and North Carolina.  He is very active in both the Colonial House of Praise Celebration Choir and Praise Team.  He has had nine years of private voice lessons personally but he has been singing since he was a small child.  Daniel grew up in a very musical family and eventually married a singer as well.  Daniel and Karen got married in January 2007 and sing together quite often.  They are confident in God’s call on their life to minister with music and The Studio is a great opportunity for them to follow that call.

 

Karen Cummins: voice

Karen Cummins graduated from Liberty University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in early childhood development and a minor in vocal performance. While in college Karen was very involved musically in groups, solos, and theater. Upon graduation Karen toured the United States on a singing team. Karen taught a We Sing class at Kid U and was able to combine her two favorite things…kids and singing! Karen received vocal training all throughout her life as well as being involved with solo work, theater, small groups/ensembles all the way up to collegiate choir. She married Daniel Cummins in January 2007. They love to sing together and use music as a tool to minister to others as well as themselves.
